URBAN eat unveils first avocado sandwich as part of two new summer specials
URBAN eat has revealed its summer seasonal specials including the vegan Chipotle Chickpea & Avocado sandwich.
Also on the menu is the colourful Wiltshire Ham & Applewood® Smoky Cheddar sandwich, combining British, high-quality ingredients with a twist – mustard slaw and a smoked onion chutney.
URBAN eat’s seasonal specials have proved a hit with customers and retailers, becoming strong sellers when available. This year’s summer specials bring back the popular beach hut packaging to help the products stand out on shelf.
With 6,000 avocados sold in the UK every hour, URBAN eat was keen to include the popular ingredient in its collection. Following a rigorous product development process, Adelie Foods has developed a manufacturing method that allows the avocado to stay fresh and prevent browning when in the sandwich.
The food to go sector is predicted to grow by £0.5bn in the next three years and URBAN eat has introduced the seasonal sandwiches to offer an alternative option and provide a sales boost to retailers.
Wayne Greensmith, Head of Category Marketing at Adelie Foods, says: “Our seasonal specials continue to prove a huge hit. For our summer collection, the bright seaside beach hut packaging also brings colour and a point of difference to chillers, helping retailers and operators to make the most of sales opportunities.
“Our innovation team are always looking at new ingredients we can use and different recipes to bring to market. We’re really pleased to bring Applewood’s smokey cheddar cheese to our sandwiches for the first time and think these will be popular with shoppers.
“With the number of consumers looking for meat-free lunchtime options at an all-time high, we’ve opted to make our first avocado sandwich vegan, using a vegan mayonnaise. We introduced a vegetarian seasonal special earlier this year which has performed even better than expected, while our first ever vegan Christmas option also proved a hit.”

- Chipotle Chickpea & Avocado – Chipotle chickpea salsa with crushed avocado lemon juice, vegan mayonnaise and salad leaves on malted bread.
- Wiltshire Ham & Applewood® Smoky Cheddar – British Wiltshire ham with mustard slaw, smoked flavoured Cheddar, smoked onion chutney and salad leaves on soft grain bread.
