Imperial Tobacco’s third annual ignite awards celebrated a fantastic 2017 with a glittering ceremony last Friday at the Intercontinental O2, where the stars of the UK’s independent retail industry were recognised for their hard work and successes across six hard-fought categories.

The evening commenced with a celebration of some of Imperial Tobacco’s most iconic brands, where visitors were able to interact with products and compete for prizes in an impressive showroom which brought the brands and their history to life.

Alongside Imperial representatives, retailers were invited to try their hand at a number of activities including pulse-racing Scalextric racing and tense safe cracking, or simply chill out at our mini-festival.

The evening continued in style with a three-course dinner and awards ceremony, including live music acts, band and DJ. The evening was hosted by comedian and Radio 4 broadcaster, Dominic Holland, with retailers competing for awards including: ‘Stock IT’, ‘Price IT’, ‘Sell IT’, ‘Most Improved’, and ‘EUTPD Success Story’. The night culminated with the crowning of the ignite Champion, Dhruv Patel from KS Newsagents, London.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Patel said: “I am delighted to have won this prestigious award. We have worked hard over the past year to ensure our store’s success, and the ignite rewards programme has been key to assisting us on that journey. To be nominated was a great honour, but to go on and win is just fantastic.

“This evening has been a great way to recognise the hard efforts all retailers put in to achieving their own success, and we are pleased to be part of ignite and see them reward our industry for its efforts. Thank you to everyone who believed in us and here’s to a successful 2018.”

Sophie Hogg, Head of Sales & Marketing at Imperial, comments: “ignite is all about celebrating the work and commitment of the independent trade. The programme provides guidance and support and helps us work together with retailers to ensure that they navigate the category and any legislation whilst driving their business success.

“The ignite awards ceremony is an ideal way for us to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the very best retailers, and enables us to consolidate our relationships with the independent trade.”

Cameron Miles, Market Manager at Imperial, also commented: “We’re delighted to be able to celebrate once again the fantastic achievements of our ignite members over the past year.

“Tonight’s ceremony demonstrates how close collaboration with the vital independent retail sector provides the ingredients to deliver success on all sides. ignite is a vital platform for us and we are very grateful for the efforts all have gone to in order to reach the heights of 2017.

“Congratulations to the winners, and I look forward to seeing ignite go from strength to strength in 2018 and beyond.”
