SPAR wholesaler’s 13th year of supporting sport within schools

James Hall & Co, SPAR UK wholesaler for the North of England, is delighted to announce its thirteenth year of sponsorship for the SPAR Lancashire School Games, helping to promote healthy and active lifestyles across Lancashire.

Held on Valentine’s Day – the perfect day to discuss loving sport – the 2019 SPAR Lancashire School Games were officially launched through a special VIP event, held at James Hall & Co’s purpose built, SPAR distribution centre in Preston.

120 special guests were treated to inspirational talks by Team GB athletes, Nathan Maguire (Paralympian sprinter) and Lisa Whiteside (Commonwealth Gold Boxer), and a behind-the-scenes tour of the company’s 35,000 sq. metre warehouse and production areas to educate the children of the many opportunities available to them, within the retail sector.

Among the guests, were 80 Lancashire school children who had been selected to represent the 15 districts competing in the games and VIPS from Active Lancashire; Rock FM and the Mayor of Preston, Councillor Trevor Hart.

Peter Dodding, sales and marketing director at James Hall & Co said: “We are thrilled to be able to continue our support for the SPAR Lancashire School Games and help promote healthy, active lifestyles throughout the county, alongside our partners Active Lancashire and the fantastic team of Lancashire school games organisers.

Peter added: “Over 94,000 Lancashire school children participated in last year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games and this year promises to be bigger and better!”

Paralympian Nathan Maguire spoke about his disability, explaining that living well was all about having the right mind-set and approach to life’s challenges: “My disability has offered me the most amazing experiences and the chance to compete in incredible places, represent my country and meet a fantastic range of diverse and inspiring people.

“I had to go outside of school to find the right kind of facilities and developed my love of competitive sport through wheelchair basketball. It is fantastic to see children with disabilities here today being offered the chance to take part in such an exciting and inclusive competition.”
