GOOD AND AUTHENTIC: LAVAZZA LAUNCHES ETHICALLY-SOURCED ¡TIERRA! COLOMBIA EXCLUSIVELY INTO FOODSERVICE CHANNEL

Lavazza, the global producer of authentic Italian coffee, is set to launch its new ethically-sourced ¡Tierra! Colombia 100% Arabica, in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance (RFA), in both bean and ground formats, exclusively into the foodservice channel. ¡Tierra! Colombia is the latest addition to Lavazza’s ¡Tierra! range; a collection of the finest, sustainable blends, sourced from the business’ social responsibility project of the same name.

The ¡Tierra! project was established by Lavazza in 2002 and developed in collaboration with the NGO RFA. It aims to improve the social and environmental conditions and production techniques of a number of coffee-growing communities in Colombia, India, Peru, Vietnam, Tanzania, Honduras and Ethiopia. The 16-year project has been inspired by three main principles: the excellence of coffee, care of and support for small communities, and respect for the planet.

 

The programme have been active in Colombia since 2015. The non-profit, Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation has been working in partnership with local institutions, NGOs and businesses, particularly in the municipality of Mesetas in the Meta department, at the foot of the Cordillera Oriental mountain range. Since the end of the conflict with the FARC, the Lavazza Foundation has been able to restore the coffee plantations to their original state after the period of guerrilla warfare, allowing locals to start producing high quality coffee.

 

All ¡Tierra! Colombia products are sourced from 100% sustainable agriculture, certified by the Rainforest Alliance NGO, a networking community dedicated to conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods, and benefit from Lavazza’s 120 years of experience and craftmanship.

 

Lavazza has long-term, direct relationship with farmers and traders, together establishing specific criteria alongside technical support of coffee experts. This selection makes Lavazza’s blends taste profile consistent 365 days a year, to guarantee a delighting coffee experience every day. In addition, the state-of-the-art roasting is the result of a breakthrough ‘Slow Gentle Roasting’ method, a gentle drum roasting and air conveyed technology to enhance the taste profile of the origins, bringing to the cup long-lasting flavours and a rich and intense aroma, avoiding negative notes. An aromatic harmony and a mild taste highlighted by its charismatic sweetness, refined acidity and full body. The notes of tropical fruit are accompanied by scents of lime peel and jasmine, with a mild liqueur-like aftertaste.

Perfect for filter and cold brew

Fruity aroma and balanced body filter, with the strong sweetness typical of Colombian washed Arabica. It makes an elegant cup of coffee with notes of grapefruit, red fruits, bergamot and honey.
