Responding to the growing trend for vegetarian, food-to-go products, the UK’s number 1 savoury pastry brand*, Ginsters of Cornwall, introduces two new products – Moroccan Vegetable Pasty and Cornish Cheddar & Caramelised Onion Pasty – both developed in conjunction with Cornish Head Chef Chris Eden.

With these additions to its ever-expanding range Ginsters has responded to consumer demand from over a third of food-to-go shoppers[1] who want to see an expanded range of vegetarian products and the 91% of the population that is adopting a flexitarian approach to eating.

The Ginsters Moroccan Vegetable Pasty combines a wide variety of exotic ingredients, many of which are new to the Ginsters repertoire. Butternut squash, chickpeas, roasted red piquillo peppers and red harissa paste blend together to form the base of the vegetarian pasty. The contrast of rich spice with the sweetness of tangy fruits such as golden apricots and dates creates a perfectly balanced flavour combination. The heat of spice comes from the Moroccan chermoula paste containing aromatic cumin, paprika and cayenne pepper.

For a modern twist on a classic flavour combination, the Cheddar Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pasty is blend of Cornish extra mature Cheddar, combined with sweet and tender caramelised onions, spring onions and a hint of wholegrain mustard.

Ginsters Managing Director, Kieran Hemsworth says, “We are passionate about ensuring the pasty remains as modern and relevant to today’s consumers as it ever has. More than a third of evening meals now contain no meat at all and we’re on a mission to respond to this consumer demand, introducing the latest food trends that deliver on maximum flavour as we continue to grow the food-to-go category. As the nation’s favourite Cornish pasty baker, we wanted to create something that is perfect for a flexitarian and vegetarian diet, with the reassurance of quality British vegetables and our Cornish provenance,”

Chris Eden comments, “Being born and bred in Cornwall I’m delighted to continue working with one of the best-known Cornish brands in the land. It’s exciting to work on products like these that will really help to keep the pasty relevant for the modern foodie and brings together an exciting mix of interesting ingredients. In the Moroccan Vegetable Pasty we’ve incorporated many exotic ingredients that have never been used in a Ginsters pasty before and in the Cheddar Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pasty we have the perfect combination of ingredients for what is sure to be an incredibly popular pasty.”

Ginsters has been baking savoury pastries in Cornwall since 1969, founded by dairy farmed Geoffrey Ginster. Ginsters now bakes over three million savoury pastries a week in Callington, Cornwall, including the flagship product the Ginsters Original Cornish Pasty. Ginsters products are sold across the length and breadth of the UK in all major multiples. Chris Eden worked alongside Ginsters’ team of development chefs including Head Chef Graham Cornish to develop these new products.

The Moroccan Vegetable Pasty and the Cornish Cheddar & Caramelised Onion Pasty by Ginsters of Cornwall will be available selected retailers from 9th April, with a RRP of £1.70.
