Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) is supporting this year’s Great British Spring Clean as part of its long-term partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, which can trace its roots back to 1965.

The Great British Spring Clean is one of the country’s largest initiatives that encourages people to join forces to tackle litter and help clean up their local areas. The 2018 campaign saw more than 370,000 people collect 650,000 bags of rubbish across Great Britain, which equated to 5,621 tonnes of litter removed from the environment. The ambition this year is to inspire more than half a million people to get involved.

Once again, CCEP will be supporting Keep Britain Tidy, the organisation behind the event, for the biggest ever Great British Spring Clean, which is taking place for a whole month (instead of just one weekend like previous years) between 22nd March and 23rd April.

We know that many convenience retailers are hubs of their communities and have a unique relationship with their customers. Hosting a Community Clean-up event during the Great British Spring Clean provides an opportunity for retailers to get involved in a good cause whilst also building relationships with people in their local communities, many of whom will be shoppers in their stores.”


Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “It’s fantastic to have Coca-Cola European Partners supporting the annual Great British Spring Clean. We hope retailers get on board as well to support the event, and boost our efforts to mobilise half a million people to clean up our streets, rivers, beaches and parks. Last year, the campaign removed more than 630,000 bags of litter from Britain’s public spaces, leaving them safer and cleaner. This year we aim to recycle as much of the collected litter as we can too, as we continue in our mission to eliminate litter, end waste and improve public spaces.”



Retailers who would like to get involved can download a free ‘CCEP Guide to Hosting a Community Clean-Up’ on the sustainability section of as well as an editable promotional poster that retailers can put up in store. CCEP will also be providing a limited number of free Community Clean Up Starter Kits which include litter pickers, gloves and high-vis vests, to help retailers organise their events. Those who share their experiences once completed will be in with the chance of winning £1,000 for a local charity or cause of their choice. (Rules are available on )

Among the volunteers taking part during the Great British Spring Clean will be colleagues from CCEP’s field sales teams, offices and manufacturing sites across the country. This support forms part of the business’ wider sustainability strategy, This is Forward, which includes an ambition of recovering all of its packaging so that more can be recycled and none ends up as litter.
