pladis, the global biscuit and confectionery company that owns well-loved brands such as McVitie’s and Jacobs, has recruited new members to its well-established Ambassador Biscuit Club.

Jamie & Anish Keshwara (NISA), Chaz Chahal (Simply Fresh), David Charman (ParkFoot Spar) and Jai Singh of MJ’s Local Sheffield are the latest recruits to join theclub helping pladis to gain deeper insights and better understand the challenges faced by retailers operating in the sector.

Hena Chandarana, UK Trade Communication Controller, pladis said: “We are really pleased to have four new members joining the pladis Ambassador Club. All bring valuable knowledge and experience which will help us better understand and support the convenience category. Having a cross-section of retailers gives us real time insights into what is really happening on the ground; that’s what makes this partnership invaluable”

The pladis Ambassador Biscuit Club was first launched in 2015 and comprises of carefully selected independent retailers from both affiliated and unaffiliated sectors across the UK. Convening every quarter, members discuss hot topics and share category knowledge. The members are offered the chance to get a first look at pladis’ latest initiatives and share feedback directly on proposed developments and innovations in the business’ convenience and impulse offering. Since launch, the club has benefited both sides in understanding the dynamics of the biscuit category within the convenience market.

Raaj Chandarana, from Tara News, High Wycombe, said: “The pladis Ambassador Club is the way a forum should be run by suppliers – mutually beneficial and to grow the entire category. Finally, a supplier that understands a category approach! Lucky to be a member!”

At the most recent forum the club worked together to launch the new go ahead! Goodness Bar across convenience stores. Members were briefed on the new product, provided with stock, in-store POS and in teams went into three prime London stores to launch the product.

Chaz Chahal, from Simply Fresh, said: “The go ahead! Goodness Bar was well received by retailers as it’s completely on trend with healthier impulse.  This task worked well as retailers are more receptive to other retailers.”
